Alright, before I go off for a cruise, I'll post this overdue entry! Well it's been so long since I went on a cruise trip but I think it'll be boring (because, well, what can you do on a ship? For 3 days? Except pig out, slack and shop? Or gamble?)...I'll be thankful if I can arrive back on land safely and in one piece (touch wood!)...
I'm actually looking forward more to my returning to Jakarta 'cos I've not been there since last year. Singapore does things to your brain, I think, and you need to unwind once in a while, just to recharge yourself before entering the pressure cooker again. Just yesterday while we're having casual talk over TV my mom, my brother and I were discussing the merits of living in Singapore, Jakarta etc.
If you're super rich, we concluded that Jakarta's better because everything's less rigid and you'll live the life of royalty, like one of my father's patients or Niki's friend. Singapore would have cleaner air blah blah but everything's tepid. Somehow it lacked soul, I don't know, maybe I wasn't born here but that shouldn't be the case because I could really feel the vibrancy in other cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo etc...Well these latter cities would be too hectic for me, this couch potato. Then we moved on to discussing Europe and my mom immediately related horror stories of daughters dissing parents once they're 'westernised'...so it's out then? And although I know the weather there'd be too glum and cold and whatever, I thought, I'd never ever been there before, so at least I should judge the places myself before making a comparison, right? I reckon Europe'd be boring, but less kampungan. But really I don't know...I always end up experiencing things that are totally opposite of the picture that I have in my mind. (Don't we all?). Like Xiao S mentioned in her variety programme, when she said she hated short people, immediately her next boyfriend would be short, so her advice was, you should say the exact opposite of what you want. Point is, you can't have your cake, let alone eat it. Doesn't it always (ok, very often)?
Which is precisely why human beings always covet. Psychotic he may be but Dr Hannibal Lecter's a genius. There's a lot of mismatch of wants in this world but then again, would we really be happy if we got what we wanted? So I'll leave the decision to stay in which country bla bla bla on hold and take things as they come...er, whatever. Singapore Singapore, loh. (resigned)
